National Institute of Technology
The National Institute of Technology, Raipur (NIT Raipur) is a premier public technical university in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India. Established in 1956 as Government Engineering College, Raipur, it was granted NIT status in 2005, becoming part of India’s network of National Institutes of Technology. It is recognized nationally for excellence in engineering, architecture, and scientific research. Founded by India’s first president, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, NIT Raipur began with departments of Metallurgical and Mining Engineering. The institute’s main building was inaugurated by Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in 1963. Over the decades, NIT Raipur has grown into a multidisciplinary institution offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in over a dozen engineering and science disciplines.
