Peddapuram Maharaja’S Fort
  • Historical Significance: It was the capital and seat of the powerful Vatsavai Jagapathi Maharajas who ruled the extensive Peddapuram Estate for nearly 300 years, beginning in the late 16th century (built by Raja Vatsavai Chathurbhuja Thimma Jagapathi Bahadhur, c. 1555–1607).

  • Structure: It was originally a large, oval-shaped stone fort (constructed on about 38 acres) surrounded by a ditch/moat.

  • Current Status: Most of the fort is now in ruins, though the ditch and parts of the old walls are still visible. Much of the land inside the walls is now under cultivation.

  • Legends: It is associated with local legends, including a tragic event where the women of the royal household self-immolated to avoid capture.
